President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has emphasized that working with countries around the world is the most beneficial path for the Maldives. He shared this sentiment before departing for the 79th United Nations General Assembly earlier today.
Speaking to the media, President Muizzu highlighted that his participation in the UN meetings would focus on advocating for small island nations like the Maldives. He underscored the importance of international cooperation in addressing global challenges, stating that the Maldives will continue to build strong ties with other countries and seek support in critical areas.
President Muizzu said that, in addition to discussing Maldivian affairs, he will also focus on strengthening foreign relations. He stressed how crucial it is for the Maldives to stay in touch with international partners for potential benefits and maintain a strong global presence, especially at the United Nations, given the country's current situation. Additionally, the President noted the need to address issues crucial to the progress of the Maldives, primarily those related to the environment, technology, and developmental aspects, for which he intends to seek assistance during the visit.
The President assured that the visit would be fruitful and produce productive results. A high-level government delegation accompanies the President on his visit.
Notably, President Muizzu will be attending an open debate at the UN Security Council, marking the first time a Maldivian President has participated in such a discussion. The President is expected to take part in 14 high-level meetings during his visit.
President Muizzu is scheduled to return to Malé on September 27.
