In a strong show of solidarity, President His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Muizzu reiterated the Maldives' unwavering support for the Palestinian cause during an interview following his meeting with Palestinian President His Excellency Dr. Mahmoud Abbas. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA79).

Speaking to international media, President Muizzu emphasized the unity of the Maldivian people in standing with Palestine, stating that "every single Maldivian supports the Palestinian people and their cause." He condemned the ongoing genocide and war crimes being committed against Palestinians and assured that the Maldives has, is, and will continue to support Palestine in all capacities.

The Maldives has consistently advocated for Palestine as a key component of its foreign policy, reflecting its dedication to justice and human rights. This year, the Maldives co-sponsored a resolution supporting Palestine's full membership at the United Nations, a significant step adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2024.

In addition, the Maldives welcomed the International Court of Justice (ICJ) Advisory Opinion on the legal consequences of Israel’s policies, submitting both a written and oral statement in the case. Furthering its support, a telethon held in the Maldives in June 2024 raised over USD 1.2 million, which was donated to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

President Muizzu's remarks and actions underscore the Maldives' deep commitment to the Palestinian cause and its continued advocacy for their rights on the global stage.
