President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu delivered a powerful address at the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, condemning Israeli actions in Palestine as a mockery of justice. Speaking at the UNGA79 General Debate, he asserted the need for the rule of law and called for Palestine’s full membership in the United Nations.

In his speech, President Muizzu emphasized that human rights violations by any country—regardless of its size or wealth—must not be tolerated. He described the situation in Gaza as a grave injustice and a failure of the international system. The President condemned Israel's atrocities, which he stated have resulted in the deaths and injuries of thousands of Palestinians, including men, women, children, and babies. He criticized the destruction of homes, hospitals, schools, and humanitarian infrastructure, highlighting the urgent need for accountability.

Additionally, President Muizzu pointed out that while the world struggles to process the civilian deaths in Gaza, Israeli raids in Lebanon are claiming hundreds more civilian lives. He stressed that Israel is also targeting journalists, including Palestinian, Lebanese, and Al-Jazeera reporters, and criticized the closure of Al-Jazeera offices as an attempt to prevent the world from witnessing the crimes occurring in Gaza.

The President called on Israel to be held accountable for acts of terrorism and violations of international law and UN resolutions. He reiterated his call for the recognition of a sovereign and independent Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

President Muizzu's address underscored the Maldives’ commitment to supporting the rights of the Palestinian people and promoting justice on the international stage, reinforcing the need for solidarity and accountability in addressing the ongoing conflict in Palestine.
