President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced that the Maldives is preparing for a significant economic transformation during his address at the UN General Assembly. He emphasized the need for international financial assistance to achieve the desired results from the government's newly established policies.

In his speech, President Muizzu highlighted that the Maldives has historically taken responsibility for its development. However, he acknowledged that the country requires necessary support from the global community to facilitate the upcoming changes. He called on the international community not to perceive the Maldives' vulnerabilities as obstacles to development.

Furthermore, President Muizzu urged donors to recognize that the Maldives should not be viewed as the sole recipient of aid. He advocated for reducing interest rates on loans and relaxing the rules governing the provision of financial assistance to countries in need. The President stressed that the financial system should not operate as a punitive mechanism but rather serve to uplift nations.

He called for a shift from rigid approaches to financial assistance, advocating for necessary reforms that enhance accountability and ensure that aid is specific, tangible, and accessible. President Muizzu's remarks underscore his commitment to fostering a supportive international environment to facilitate the Maldives' ambitious economic transformation and development goals.
