In a proactive measure to ensure public safety, the Ministry of Defense has initiated a special operation dubbed "Operation Hiraas Faas" to inspect storage facilities for hazardous chemicals. This decision comes amid growing concerns over the improper handling and storage of dangerous substances within the Maldives.

According to a press release from the ministry, while the importation of hazardous chemicals is regulated for various purposes, there have been multiple complaints regarding violations of rules related to their possession and storage. The ministry emphasized that non-compliance could lead to severe consequences for the residents of the Maldives.

The statement from the Defense Ministry highlighted the critical nature of adhering to established regulations, warning that failure to implement these rules could result in "irreparable damage" to the community.

The Ministry of Defense holds the legal authority to inspect these facilities, particularly when there are indications that the carriers of hazardous chemicals may not be following the regulations. This operation aims not only to ensure compliance but also to educate the public on the laws governing the importation, handling, and storage of hazardous chemicals in the country.

As part of "Operation Hiraas Faas," the Ministry of Defense will focus on various zones to conduct thorough inspections and raise awareness about the importance of safety measures regarding hazardous materials.
