Minister of Foreign Affairs, Moosa Zameer has underscored the essential role tourism plays in linking the Maldives with the international community on World Tourism Day.

In a statement on X, Zameer emphasized that tourism is not only the backbone of the Maldivian economy but also a key driver in promoting global harmony and fostering stronger international relationships.

“Our tourism industry is the key pillar that connects us to the rest of the world. For us, it is not only the bedrock of our economy but also a pivotal tool for fostering harmony and strengthening bonds with other nations,” Zameer said.

World Tourism Day, which celebrates the unifying power of tourism, focuses on how the industry contributes to cultural exchange and global peace. In his statement, Zameer also reiterated the Maldives' commitment to sustainable tourism, stressing that the country is dedicated to ensuring that the tourism sector benefits both the economy and the environment in the long term.

“As the Maldives prioritises sustainable tourism, we strive to secure a thriving tourism sector that ensures lasting benefits for all of us,” Zameer added, urging collective efforts to make tourism a driving force for sustainability and unity.



Tourism remains one of the Maldives’ most important income-generating industries, and the country continues to attract a significant number of visitors. According to the Ministry of Tourism, more than 1,460,000 tourists have visited the Maldives so far this year.

Known for its pristine beaches and luxury resorts, the Maldives remains a top global tourist destination, with sustainability playing a central role in the country’s tourism policies, aimed at balancing industry growth with environmental preservation.
