Prosecutor General (PG) Abbas Shareef has announced that he will not unilaterally alter the decisions made by his predecessor, former Prosecutor General (PG) Hussain Shameem, without proper review by a committee. PG Shareef made this statement during his first press conference after taking office, following the sacking of Hussain Shameem by Parliament on August 22 last year due to errors in some decisions.
Shareef acknowledged that while the Parliament found certain decisions wrong, he does not intend to change them on his initiative. He noted that since assuming office, he has received numerous complaints and has now opened a formal process for submitting grievances regarding the actions of the Prosecutor General's Office.
Starting today, a 20-day window has been opened for the public to submit complaints, either in person at any office of the Prosecutor General or through the office’s official website. Shareef clarified that a committee will review any complaints filed within this period, and decisions will be evaluated based on the findings of the review process.
According to the Prosecutor General office, any changes to previous decisions would be made transparently, with reasons for those changes clearly explained to the public. In cases where no changes are made, complainants will be informed accordingly.
