President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has called for increased focus on mental health, emphasizing its critical role in overall well-being.

The President's remarks came in recognition of International Mental Health Day, celebrated annually on October 10.

In a message shared on social media, President Muizzu stated, "Two-thirds of a person's overall health is their mental health." He highlighted the importance of mental strength in shaping a productive individual, urging the public to prioritize mental health care. "So let's pay special attention to mental health!" the President emphasized.

During his presidential campaign last year, President Muizzu pledged to establish a state-of-the-art mental health hospital in the Maldives, built to international standards. He reiterated that this hospital would reduce the need for citizens to seek costly mental health treatment abroad, particularly in India and other countries.

The proposed mental health hospital is expected to be developed in Laamu atoll Gan, underscoring the government's commitment to improving mental health services across the nation.
