President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced a nationwide ban on vaping in the Maldives, effective later this year.

The decision, shared through a post on the social media platform X, outlines the government's plan to ban the import, sale, and use of vaping products.

According to the announcement, the import of vaping equipment and its components will be prohibited starting November 15, 2024. Additionally, the use, possession, manufacture, sale, advertising, and free distribution of vaping products will be banned starting December 15, 2024.

President Muizzu's decision comes amidst growing concerns over the rise in vaping among Maldivians, particularly among young people. Health professionals and doctors in the country have increasingly called for a ban on vaping due to its potential health risks.

The President has directed the relevant authorities to take all necessary measures to implement the ban effectively and ensure compliance across the country.
