The Maldives government has officially banned the import and use of vaping products. Attorney General Ahmed Usham announced that relevant legislation will be amended this week to enforce the ban.
Following President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's directive, Usham expressed his support for the decision, highlighting its significance for the health and safety of children and youth in the country. He confirmed plans to propose amendments to both the Tobacco Control Act and the Export-Import Act to facilitate the implementation of the ban.
In a recent post on social media platform X, President Muizzu outlined the ban's details, stating that the importation of vaping equipment and its components will be prohibited starting November 15. The President also directed authorities to take all necessary measures to prohibit the use, possession, manufacture, sale, advertising, and free distribution of vaping products in the Maldives, effective from the same date.
This decision comes amid increasing concerns regarding the health effects of vaping, particularly among young people, prompting calls for stricter regulations in the interest of public health.
