Spokesperson for the President's Office, Heena Waleed has dismissed claims that the government has recruited over 7,000 individuals for political positions and state-owned companies, calling the report a “blatant lie.”

The statement came in response to a report published by a local media, which alleged that the government had created more than 7,000 jobs. In a post on X, Heena criticized the publication for spreading unverified information and engaging in what she termed "irresponsible journalism."

Heena referenced figures from the Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB), stating that the number of employees in state-owned companies had decreased by over 1,000 during the first quarter of 2024, compared to the last quarter of 2023. She added that these facts contradict the report’s claims and reflect efforts by the current administration to cut government expenditure and manage the nation’s debt.

Heena further accused critics of attempting to misrepresent the positive reception of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's initiatives aimed at reducing public spending.

Earlier today, President Muizzu announced that 228 political appointees would be dismissed from various ministries within the next 15 days as part of the government’s ongoing economic reform agenda. The move is intended to streamline government operations and reduce costs.
