Kendhoo Constituency MP Mauroof Zakir has called on the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) to take to the streets to hold the government accountable and push it back on the right track. Speaking at a rally at the MDP office yesterday, Mauroof expressed concerns over the current administration's handling of state affairs.
Mauroof criticized the government for having full control of the state for almost a year without any notable progress. He emphasized that the government has failed to bring about positive changes, leading to growing discontent among the people. Mauroof stated that public concerns have reached a critical point, with increasing frustration over alleged corruption and the perceived inaction of the government.
He said the MDP has to take to the streets and explain to the people that things are going wrong. The people are telling us how bad it is. The MDP is asleep, but now it is awake. The time has come to work to stop this mistake, urging the party to mobilize and address the issues facing the country.
In his speech, Mauroof also highlighted growing divisions within the ruling Progressive National Congress (PNC) in parliament. He attributed this to the halt in development projects and the lack of progress in islands. Mauroof predicted that the internal conflict within the PNC would soon become evident.
He added that we will see the conflict inside the parliament and that he has no doubt that the PNC MPs will be divided in no time.
