Defense Minister Ghassan Maumoon has been called to appear before Parliament to address questions regarding the use of drones purchased from Turkey for the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).
The inquiry was initiated by South Galolhu MP Meekail Naseem, who raised concerns over whether the drones, acquired for MVR 570 million, have been operationalized.
MP Meekail submitted a notice asking Minister Ghassan to clarify if the drones brought for the MNDF Air Corps have been utilized and to provide details on the purposes for which they have been deployed.
Reports indicate that the MNDF has only used unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) once in an operation to locate missing individuals. Since that incident, there have been no official reports of further drone usage by the MNDF, raising questions about their current deployment and effectiveness.
Minister Ghassan is expected to provide a comprehensive update during his parliamentary appearance.
