In a significant move to enhance the livelihoods of public servants, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's administration has announced plans to increase salaries for civil service employees in the upcoming budget for the fiscal year 2025.
During a parliamentary session on Wednesday, Finance Minister Moosa Zameer disclosed that the budget will feature salary adjustments for all civil service employees who have not yet experienced salary harmonization. Minister Zameer highlighted that MVR 500 million has been allocated specifically to address the harmonization of salaries for civil service workers, including those in the judiciary. He also reaffirmed the government's commitment to ensuring equitable compensation across the civil service sector, stating that the salaries of all other employees will be revised in 2026.
This announcement follows the government's prior initiatives to raise salaries for teachers, health workers, and security personnel, fulfilling promises made during the campaign.
The proposed budget for the fiscal year 2025 amounts to MVR 56.6 billion, marking an increase of MVR 6.8 billion compared to this year's budget. The total proposed state budget for 2025 stands at MVR 56,647,600,859 (fifty-six billion, six hundred forty-seven million, six hundred eight hundred fifty-nine).
