The Maldives National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) has announced that the Aasandha scheme will continue to be available as before for those without private insurance.

The decision was made on October 31 to initially deduct the cost of outpatient treatment for those who have private insurance.

However, many private insurance companies have decided to stop cashless services, leading some private healthcare providers to indicate that patients may have to pay for treatments out of pocket.

Today, the NSPA stated that individuals who do not have private insurance coverage or services will be able to access medical treatment under the Aasandha scheme, as they have been previously.

The NSPA also assured that in all cases where individuals are not covered by their own insurance policy and have to pay out of pocket, even due to the discontinuation of cashless payments by private insurance companies, they will still receive medical assistance.

"The agency is concerned about the misrepresentation of facts by various parties in such circumstances," the NSPA said in a statement.
