Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom emphasized the need for the Maldives to remain vigilant against foreign threats during a speech at the Victory Day ceremony held last night. Speaking at the official event, Gayoom highlighted the ongoing political tensions worldwide, suggesting that these factors could potentially escalate into crises that may impact the nation.

He stated that the global political landscape is constantly shifting, and with it comes the possibility of threats. It is essential that the Maldivian people stay alert and prepared for any potential challenges.

President Gayoom also reflected on the lessons learned from the November 3, 1988 terrorist attack, underscoring the importance of unity in the face of challenges. He noted that while political differences exist, national commitment should remain unshaken. According to Gayoom, unity should be prioritized above all, especially in matters of national security.

The events of November 3 taught the value of unity, he said, adding that even those who disagreed with the government rallied together to defend the nation. National interests must always come before political divides.

Gayoom’s comments serve as a reminder of the resilience displayed by Maldivians on Victory Day and a call to maintain this solidarity in safeguarding the country’s future.
