President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has committed to completing and delivering "Shaheedhunge Hiyaa," a dedicated housing project for the families of those who lost their lives in service on November 3, 1988. This announcement was made during his Victory Day address, as the nation commemorated the heroism and sacrifices made on that fateful day.
President Muizzu acknowledged that in the past four decades, 29 military personnel, two police officers, and 11 civilians have passed away while serving the nation. However, he expressed regret that these sacrifices have not been adequately recognized. "Failing to honour these courageous individuals is a disgrace to their memory," he said, emphasizing the importance of rectifying this oversight.
To support the families of the November 3rd martyrs, President Muizzu also announced a special lifetime allowance. This allowance will be provided to the families of those who died in the line of duty on that day, including the five individuals awarded the Medal for Exceptional Bravery and the ten recipients of the Medal for Bravery. The allowances will follow specific regulations set by the state, to be outlined in the gazette.
The President expressed that while no compensation can fully address the loss these families endure, the initiative represents a step towards recognizing the bravery and sacrifice of the martyrs. He reaffirmed his administration's commitment to honoring their legacy and ensuring their families receive due support.
