South Feydhoo MP Ibrahim Didi stated that the damage caused on February 8, 2012, exceeds that of November 3, during a debate on the government's proposed bill to fine political party members for violations of the Political Parties Act. The proposed fine is set at MVR 100,000.
During his address, Ibrahim Didi criticized the political landscape in the Maldives, asserting that political parties have "destroyed" numerous positive aspects of the nation. He emphasized that the failure to strengthen political party operations has severely impacted the country's economy.
Referring specifically to the February 8 incident, Didi described it as a "terrible act" executed by a political party, alluding to the arson attacks that erupted following the resignation of former President Mohammed Nasheed.
Didi remarked, "Last night was Victory Day, November 3. However, there was more damage to the entire people of the country, more unsettling and terrible things were done by a political party on February 8, 2012. Where is the progress benefit of the political party?"
The debate continues as Parliament discusses the implications of the proposed legislation, which aims to hold individual party members accountable for breaches of the Political Parties Act.
