Minister of Education Dr. Ismail Shafeeu revealed that nearly 300 education workers have been subjected to various punishments without proper evidence. The statement was made during a parliamentary session today, where he responded to concerns raised by South Fuvahmulah MP Ibrahim Hussain.
MP Hussain had questioned the Ministry of Education about reports of discrimination against students by certain school principals, a matter that had been brought up in a previous session. He inquired whether the ministry had taken any action regarding these issues after the change of government.
In his response, Minister Shafeeu emphasized the importance of fairness in handling educational matters, as advised by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. He acknowledged that when he took office, around 40 principals had been reassigned to other schools, and some staff members had suffered unjust treatment.
The minister also highlighted that approximately 300 education workers had been penalized without sufficient evidence. He assured that the current government is committed to ensuring that any complaints against educational staff are handled in a credible and fair manner.
