More than 130 students have expressed interest in becoming teachers, said Minister of Education, Dr. Ismail Shafeeu.
The Minister stated that the education ministry has launched efforts to address the shortage of teachers across the country. This initiative began with funding from UNICEF and the Education Global Partnership.
Since March 2024, the ministry has been conducting efforts to identify students interested in pursuing a teaching career in various islands across the Maldives.
“More than 130 students from 21 islands have been identified as interested in teaching,” said Dr. Shafeeu.
The Minister also highlighted that the government is working to facilitate teaching opportunities within local islands to address the challenges of high living costs for those seeking to stay in the Islands.
