President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced on Saturday that the administration would begin the Maamigili Hospital project within the year and work towards addressing other concerns raised by the island’s council to achieve the best possible outcomes.

The announcement came during a meeting with the Maamigili Island Council and the Women’s Development Committee (WDC) at the Secretariat of the Dhan'gethi Island Council.

During the meeting, council members expressed the developmental needs and concerns of the local population. They requested that key projects, including the hospital, harbor, and road development, be undertaken in alignment with the island community’s aspirations. Additionally, they emphasized the urgent need for a dedicated building to house the island's police station.

Members of the Maamigili WDC also inquired about updates regarding the allowances allocated to WDCs, seeking clarity on the distribution and support available for their initiatives.

Cabinet Ministers accompanying the President provided updates on ongoing and upcoming development projects planned for Maamigili Island.

President Dr. Muizzu reassured the council that the administration is committed to addressing the needs of the WDCs and fulfilling the concerns raised by the island council. He emphasized that efforts were already underway to ensure these priorities are met.
