Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has raised concerns about the Election Commission’s ability to fulfill its legal responsibilities, especially in light of allegations regarding the misuse of citizens’ personal information.

In a recent post on X, Solih claimed that many individuals are being deceived into joining the Progressive National Congress (PNC) through the misuse of their personal information. He pointed to the case of the MDP MP from Vaikaradhoo, who, according to Solih, was also registered in PNC without any knowledge.

Solih questioned whether the Election Commission is fulfilling its legal responsibilities, emphasizing that the Election Commission must be fully trusted by the people.

The Election Commission today, stated that it is aware of a case filed by MDP MP Hussain Ziyad (Fittey) against the ruling PNC, alleging that his details were used without his knowledge. The case was subsequently investigated and it was confirmed that the form submitted to the PNC was invalid. Following this, MP Ziyad was re-admitted to the MDP.
