President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, currently on a three-day tour of Raa Atoll, laid the foundation stone for the new Madduvari Council office building in a ceremony attended by local officials and dignitaries.

The Minister of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works, Adam Shareef Umar, hosted the event.

The upcoming two-story building marks the first project to construct council offices across the Maldives under a broader initiative. Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Adam Shareef highlighted the government's commitment to addressing the space constraints faced by local councils, enabling them to serve their communities better.

The Madduvari Council office will be built by Hexter Global, a Malaysian company, under a contractor-financing arrangement. This initiative is part of a larger project that includes the construction of 55 council offices, awarded to Hexter Global, and an additional 50 offices funded through the government’s Public Sector Investment Program (PSIP).

Minister Adam Shareef emphasized that these projects align with the administration's decentralization policy. The policy aims to empower local councils by providing modern, functional office spaces to enhance governance and service delivery.
