The Maldives government is taking steps to facilitate smoother operations for investors in the tourism sector, according to Tourism and Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim.
During an interview with PSM, Minister Thoriq revealed that several tourism development projects, including designated tourism villages, have faced prolonged delays, with some remaining stagnant for over eight years. Rather than repossessing these projects, the government aims to identify the challenges preventing their development and expedite their completion.
To support this initiative, the ministry is introducing changes to streamline the process for obtaining permits and documentation for major projects. These adjustments are intended to create a more investor-friendly environment and encourage progress in stalled projects.
Minister Thoriq emphasized that these measures will significantly boost the tourism industry, positioning the Maldives as a more attractive destination for investment and development.
