MDP MP for Maradhoo Constituency, Ahmed Didi, has accused President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration of failing to take action against corruption despite its promises of transparency and accountability.

Speaking on RajjeTV, Ahmed Didi, who also serves as the MDP Parliamentary Group Deputy Leader, said the government was elected with public confidence and a commitment to eradicating corruption. However, he claimed corruption remains widespread, and the administration has not taken meaningful steps to address it.

He pointed out that despite being in power for over a year, the government has not disclosed key financial details, including the number of political appointees paid with public funds. Additionally, he criticized the secrecy surrounding agreements signed during President Muizzu’s foreign trips, arguing that they have yielded no financial benefits for the country.

Referring to the corruption case involving the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), Didi noted that while the government initially vowed to investigate, those suspended have since been reinstated, and some accused officials have resigned. He described the situation as "shocking" and said the administration’s handling of the case undermines its credibility.

Transparency International’s latest Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) report showed that Sri Lanka has dropped three places, scoring 38 points—one point lower than the previous year. Didi argued that this decline reflects the government’s lack of transparency and failure to tackle corruption effectively.
