The government is striving to alleviate the suffering of people with kidney disease, First Lady Madam Sajidha Mohamed said.

Madam Sajidha made this statement during a press conference held in Haflong, where she spoke at the official launch of dialysis services at Amina Dhiyo Health Centre in Ihavandhoo today.

She emphasized that dialysis is a life-saving treatment that requires special care and attention. As a long-term treatment, it can be costly and difficult for patients to access, especially in rural areas, Madam Sajidha explained.

She further noted that the lack of such services in remote areas makes it financially burdensome for patients. However, she commended President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s government for creating opportunities that will ease the challenges faced by patients. According to Madam Sajidha, the government's initiative will help reduce the distance patients need to travel for treatment and speed up the delivery of services.

Madam Sajidha also highlighted the importance of understanding the struggles of people with kidney disease and urged everyone to offer support to those in need.

The dialysis service was officially inaugurated by the First Lady, and it is now available at the Amina Dhiyo Health Centre in Ihavandhoo. The centre is equipped with a three-bed unit, with one of the beds reserved for isolated treatment.
