The highest number of prosecutions in 2024 were related to drug offenses, according to the latest report from the Prosecutor General’s Office.

Data from the PG Office shows that 1,680 individuals were charged across 133 cases last year. Drug-related offenses accounted for the majority of these cases, with cannabis use being the most common charge. A total of 269 people were prosecuted for cannabis use in 2024.

The second most common charge was the use of diamorphine, with 220 individuals facing prosecution. Unauthorized possession of another person's property ranked third, with 178 people charged in such cases.

The report highlights that prosecutions covered 45 different types of criminal cases last year, with drug offenses making up a significant portion. A total of 171 individuals were charged under various criminal offenses, further reinforcing the trend of drug-related cases dominating the legal system.

In response to the surge in drug cases, the National Drug Agency (NDA) held discussions last month to strengthen anti-drug initiatives and streamline the rehabilitation process for individuals struggling with addiction.
