Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has warned that personalization in politics could undermine national unity and corrupt the social fabric of society.

In a statement shared on X, the Vice President emphasized that political parties should conduct their activities with professionalism and serve as role models for the public. He stressed the importance of collective responsibility in safeguarding societal dignity, adding that such unity is essential for the development of the nation.

His remarks come amid growing concerns over political discourse, following comments made by MDP activist Maryam Zubair regarding President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s son. The Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) and the Elections Commission have both issued statements condemning the remarks.

Meanwhile, First Lady Sajida Mohamed has also spoken out against the attacks on her family. In a statement released through her legal representative, she accused the MDP of spreading falsehoods about the President’s children and announced her decision to take legal action to protect their dignity.
