Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has urged Maldivians to take an active role in rebuilding a strong and prosperous national economy, emphasising collective responsibility in achieving sustainable development.

He made the remarks at the official launch of the National Human Capital Needs Assessment Survey Report, held today.

Speaking at the ceremony, VP Latheef reaffirmed that creating new employment opportunities is a key commitment under President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s manifesto, with major initiatives launched over the past 18 months to realise this goal.

He revealed that the Cabinet has resolved to reserve employment in selected sectors exclusively for Maldivians and highlighted the introduction of incentives to boost local participation in essential service areas, including health and education. Programmes such as the National Service Programme are among several initiatives being rolled out to empower the workforce and support economic growth.

The Vice President stressed that all citizens must contribute to building a resilient economy, while also urging the Government to ensure that the benefits of new jobs and income opportunities are distributed equitably.

The National Human Capital Needs Assessment Survey was conducted by the Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development in partnership with the World Bank. The report outlines current labour market gaps, identifies in-demand skills, and addresses challenges faced by Maldivian youth. The findings will shape short- and long-term policy strategies in line with national development priorities.
