The Housing Development Corporation (HDC), the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), and the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) have inaugurated a historic dive site in Kudagiri.
The project, launched today at Kudagiri Picnic Island, is part of a collaborative effort to enhance diving tourism in the Maldives, according to HDC.
As part of the initiative, two Donier aircraft, previously used by Air Maldives, have been submerged to create an artificial reef and attract more diving enthusiasts.
Before the project's commencement, an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) was conducted to ensure minimal ecological impact. The assessment also recommended training for those involved to adhere to safe working practices.
Maldives is a popular destination for local and international divers, and this new site is expected to further boost the Maldives’ reputation as a premier diving destination.

Beneath the waves of Kudagiri now lies the Dornier 228, one of the first aircraft purchased by Air Maldives. The Dhoonier Wreck merges aviation history with the blues of the Maldives.
