The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has announced that 129 hectares of land have been dredged so far under the Rasmale' project, accounting for about 11 percent of the total 1,153 hectares planned for reclamation.
The dredging work is being carried out by Capital Marine and Civil Construction and Mohan Mutha Exports.
Rasmale' is being developed as the first zero-carbon eco-city in the Indian Ocean, with the government highlighting its focus on technology and environmentally friendly solutions. Once completed, the project will provide 65,000 housing units, including both land plots and flats.
According to the government, the reclamation will yield three times the land area of the Uthuru Thila Falhu Phases 1 and 2 combined. Plans also include an underwater tunnel connecting Rasmale' to Malé.
