The government has launched a major initiative to establish police stations in 75 islands, a move that underscores President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s commitment to strengthening security across the Maldives, the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology announced.

Three state-owned companies have been awarded contracts for the project: Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) will develop police stations in 15 islands, Road Development Corporation (RDC) in 20 islands, and Fenaka Corporation in 40 islands.

The ministry confirmed that work will begin this year, with some stations expected to be completed within the same year. This initiative marks the largest police infrastructure development in the 91-year history of the Maldives Police Service.

With 70 islands currently lacking police services, the government views this initiative as a significant step toward ensuring safety and security throughout the nation. It reflects President Muizzu’s strong commitment to establishing security in every community.

By the time the project is complete, all islands requiring police presence—except those designated for population relocation—will have dedicated police stations.
