A resolution has been submitted to Parliament seeking lawmakers' views on the Maldives Monetary Authority's (MMA) plan to purchase land from the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).
The resolution was presented by MDP MP Shamheed, who questioned the necessity of acquiring additional property for MMA operations. He raised concerns over potential hidden motives, alleging that the government may be attempting to withdraw funds from MMA, which could impact foreign currency rates and increase inflation.
Shamheed also criticized the move for proceeding without parliamentary approval and called for MPs to express their stance on the matter.
The government, however, has denied claims that MMA's land purchase is linked to money printing.
