Hamas announced that an Israeli airstrike killed its spokesman Abdul Latif Al-Qanou in northern Gaza on Thursday, as Israel continues its bombardment following the collapse of a temporary ceasefire.
According to Hamas, Qanou was killed in a "direct" strike on a tent in Jabalia. The health ministry in Gaza reported that at least 855 people have died since Israel resumed its military operations on March 18.
Israel has escalated its strikes against high-ranking Hamas figures. Last week, the Israeli military confirmed the killing of Rashid Jahjouh, head of Hamas's internal security agency. Earlier, Hamas reported the deaths of Gaza’s government head Essam Al-Dalis and Interior Minister Mahmud Abu Watfa in Israeli airstrikes. The Israeli military later confirmed Dalis’s death.
Hamas has also confirmed the killings of political bureau members Salah Al-Bardawil and Yasser Harb.
“The occupation’s targeting of the movement’s leaders and spokespersons will not break our will,” Hamas said in a statement on Thursday.
