The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has announced that MVR 4,500 will be distributed to each individual on the registered poor list as part of this year’s Fitr Zakat. The distribution will be done on a per capita basis, ensuring equal support for all those registered.
Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem shared the news in a post on X, highlighting that the change in the distribution method is aimed at promoting social justice.
"Previously, Fitr Zakat was distributed based on what each island received, leading to unequal distributions, with some islands receiving very little. Now, the entire country is considered as one part, ensuring fairness in the distribution. This marks the first such change in the history of Fitr Zakat," Shaheem explained.
As of now, the Ministry has received MVR 12.4 million in contributions for the distribution of Fitr Zakat this year.
