The High Court has dismissed the appeal filed by Mohamed Shamaan Waheed, the former Immigration Controller, regarding his arrest.

Shamaan was arrested on charges of extorting large sums of money from foreigners and was remanded in custody for 15 days by the Criminal Court on the 20th of this month. He appealed the case in the High Court on Wednesday.

However, according to the High Court registry, the appeal was dismissed yesterday.

Earlier, the police reported that several foreigners were detained in immigration custody with large amounts of cash, and one of them was released with MVR 530,000 based on Shamaan's orders.

Additionally, four other immigration officers were arrested, and the passports of two officers were seized. The phone of a family member of Shamaan was also confiscated as part of the ongoing investigation.
