The Maldives Road Development Corporation (RDC) has been contracted to repair the heavily damaged Addu City Link Road under a project worth MVR 829 million.

The handover ceremony took place today, with Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Minister Dr. Abdulla Muthalib signing the agreement on behalf of the government, and RDC Managing Director Ali Zuhair signing on behalf of the corporation.

Speaking at the signing, Minister Muthalib stated that the repair works would cover a total area of 12.3 kilometres. The project also includes tarring 67.58 kilometres of roads that were previously laid by the Chinese Technical Bureau (CTB) as part of the earlier Addu City Road Project.

“In addition to repairing the damaged sections, a new 5.5-kilometre road will be constructed by laying fresh sand to widen the link road,” Muthalib said, adding that the government aims to complete the project within the awarded period of three years and 11 months.

The Addu City Link Road, once a key transport route, has fallen into disrepair in recent years, with large potholes and structural damage causing safety concerns and disruptions in connectivity.

The new project is part of broader infrastructure development plans aimed at improving road networks and transport efficiency across the country.
