President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s recent official visit to the United Kingdom cost the state MVR 153,600, the President’s Office revealed today.

The trip, held from April 1, centered around the launch of a global campaign to promote the Maldives through a partnership with Liverpool Football Club (LFC). The initiative is a collaboration between LFC, the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), and Visit Maldives.

During the visit, the President attended the campaign launch and toured the AXA Training Centre in Liverpool, where discussions focused on developing Maldivian football and creating opportunities for young local players.

President Muizzu also met with senior officials from the global charity Football for Peace and visited the University Peace Centre to learn about their activities. In Liverpool, he engaged with Maldivian students, inquiring about their welfare and highlighting the government’s support for those pursuing higher education abroad. A luncheon was also hosted for students studying in the UK.

Further stops included a visit to the University of Leeds, where the President explored potential areas of academic collaboration, and a meeting with the Mayor of Leeds. He also officially handed over No. 9 Rosemont Avenue, London, to the Maldives Students Association UK as a student hub.

The President’s Office maintained that the trip aligns with the administration’s goals of international promotion, youth empowerment, and strengthening educational ties.
