Minister of Tourism, Dr Abdulla Mausoom says that the hospitality industry staff should be getting support due to the effects of the ongoing pandemic to the tourism industry.
Speaking to an online media, Minister Dr Mausoom said that the hospitality industry staff should be getting support to the challenges they have been facing due to the effects of the ongoing pandemic to the tourism industry and this support could be of a disadvantage of the states income generated.
Dr Mausoom also added that he had met the Finance Minister regarding this and will have further discussion with the Finance Minister to find a proper solution for the mentioned matter.
Meanwhile the government has been trying to help the tourism industry by providing support to the businesses in the tourism industry, along with supporting their staff salaries and introduced loan schemes to support administrative and overhead costs in these businesses. But most of the resorts have fired most of their employees or minimise their salaries or send their employees for no pay leave.
Recently appointed Tourism Minister, Dr Mausoom also has said that the tourism industry cannot be brought back on its feet if we cannot support the employees of the tourism industry. He also highlighted that it is not a good time to increase the tax in a time of working towards bringing back the tourism industry on its feet. He further added that the goal is to see all the beds occupied in the tourism industry once again.
