Rescue Divers Training Program--
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that 56 rescue divers have been trained this year as part of the government’s efforts to enhance safety for fishermen at sea.

Speaking in the episode of the President's Office’s Rayyithunnaa Eku podcast, Muizzu noted the increasing dangers faced by fishermen during their trips. He said the government launched a special "rescue diving" course in response to incidents that have resulted in fatalities.

“Our goal is to have at least one trained rescue diver on every boat,” Muizzu said. “So far, 56 rescue divers have been trained from 56 boats this year. We hope this number will increase before the year ends.”

Earlier this year, Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources Ahmed Shiyam announced that 80 fishing boat crew members would be trained as rescue divers in 2025.

The initiative is part of a broader push to equip fishing vessels with lifesaving skills and ensure immediate response in emergencies at sea.
