President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu will hold a press conference on May 3, marking World Press Freedom Day, in his first formal engagement with the media since assuming office in November 2023.
The announcement was made during the fourth episode of the Rayyithunnaa Eku podcast, a platform launched by the President’s Office to share updates and respond to public concerns. In the latest episode, the President said he would meet with journalists and invited them to begin preparing questions for the upcoming press event.
He also expressed readiness to take part in television programmes hosted by local stations and answer questions if invited. The President stated that although most of his time is dedicated to achieving results through administrative work, he is committed to transparency and will make time for direct information sharing with the media and the public.
While this will be his first press conference as President, government ministers have continued to hold regular briefings at the President’s Office. Presidential messages have also been widely distributed through social media and other platforms to ensure effective communication across all age groups.
In a notable move earlier this year, President Muizzu used his official account on X (formerly Twitter) to launch a public poll on a proposed generational tobacco ban. According to the President, the results of the poll directly influenced the government’s chosen policy approach, demonstrating a new level of engagement with public sentiment through mass media platforms.
