In a significant moment reflecting the strong religious and diplomatic ties between the Maldives and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Imam of Masjid Al-Nabawi, Dr Salah bin Muhammad al-Budair, paid a courtesy call on President Dr Mohamed Muizzu this morning at the President’s Office.

The President warmly welcomed Dr al-Budair to the Maldives, describing the visit as a great honour for the nation. He noted that it has been 41 years since an Imam of Masjid Al-Nabawi last made an official visit to the Maldives. He emphasised that the visit is a symbol of the long-standing brotherly relationship between the two countries, rooted in shared Islamic values.

During the meeting, Dr al-Budair expressed his gratitude to the Maldivian Government for the invitation and the hospitality extended to him. He acknowledged the spiritual connection between the two nations and expressed his hope for even stronger ties in the future. He also conveyed warm greetings and well-wishes from King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud.

President Muizzu acknowledged the generous support extended by the Saudi Government to the Maldives, particularly in the field of Islamic education. He expressed appreciation for the care and attention given to Maldivian pilgrims during Hajj and Umrah, noting it as a reflection of the close bond between the two nations.

The meeting concluded with both sides expressing confidence that this historic visit would serve as a source of spiritual inspiration for the Maldivian people and contribute to the further strengthening of relations between the Maldives and Saudi Arabia.
