President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said the main goal of the 'Maldives 2.0' initiative is to eliminate corruption by fully digitalizing public services. He shared this vision during the fifth episode of the Rayyithunnaa Eku podcast.
The President explained that automating government processes would limit the potential for misuse of authority, improve transparency, and ensure better access to public information. The initiative will connect government bodies, service providers, and private sector institutions through a unified digital network.
He revealed that a legislative framework to support the project is currently being drafted, and that the four-year digitalization programme will be implemented in partnership with Estonia. The Maldives Digital Transformation Summit, launching on Friday evening, will officially kickstart the initiative, with participation from Estonian digital experts.
President Dr. Muizzu expressed confidence in achieving within four years what Estonia accomplished in twenty-five, with Estonian support. He also noted that by 2030, 15% of the Maldives’ production is expected to come from the digital economy.
