President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu held a high-level meeting on Thursday with key government officials to address concerns raised by advocates regarding individuals held in prolonged pre-trial detention.

The meeting, which took place at the President’s Office, focused on detailed issues outlined in a written submission presented by the advocates the previous day. According to the President’s Office, during the meeting, in-depth discussions were held on the development of an electronic monitoring system aimed at providing a second chance to individuals in extended pre-trial detention through supervised release mechanisms.

In attendance at today’s meeting were the Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihsaan; the Attorney General, Uz Ahmed Usham; and the Prosecutor General, Justice (Retired) Uz Abbas Shareef.
