Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed has warned that the country would face destruction if the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) returns to power, strongly criticizing the opposition at a rally held at the People's National Congress (PNC) Haruge on Wednesday night.

Saeed highlighted the current administration’s economic policies and contrasted them with the previous MDP-led government's approach. He credited President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu with pulling the country out of what he described as an economic abyss, citing efforts to manage debt as a key achievement.

He accused the previous government of damaging the economy by printing money and suspending laws that regulate state expenditure.

Saeed further alleged that if the MDP were to return to power, they would once again ruin key industries and instill fear among the public. He also claimed that while MDP members now criticize him, they ignored warnings from PNC members during their time in government regarding harmful legal amendments.

The remarks come amid continued political tension and debate over the state of the nation’s economy.
