Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed has declared that the greatest accomplishment of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is rescuing the Maldives from the crippling debt crisis left behind by the previous administration.
Speaking at a rally held at the PNC Haruge in Malé, Saeed said that despite claims by the former government that the country was heading toward bankruptcy and default, President Muizzu's leadership has turned the situation around and put the Maldives back on the path of development.
According to Saeed, the President, with the support of the ruling People's National Congress (PNC), had successfully steered the country away from financial disaster. He credited the President’s policies for ensuring that the state now operates without outstanding bills, pending payments, or debts owed to banks.
Saeed also alleged that since Muizzu assumed office, efforts have been underway to remove him, with legal tools being prepared to challenge his administration. However, he said these obstacles have been overcome through effective governance.
He further claimed that the progress made by the current government in just over a year surpasses the combined efforts of the last three or four administrations. Saeed praised the work of the President, his Cabinet, and Parliament members, saying they are working diligently to lift the country out of the economic abyss.
The minister’s remarks come amid heightened political tensions and growing public debate over the country’s economic direction.
