Male’ City Mayor Adam Azim has accused the government of wasting public funds, saying that the administration has done little for citizens despite heavy spending over the past two years.
Azim’s remarks come amid allegations that the ruling PNC spent MVR 50 million on a rally held to celebrate the government’s second anniversary.
Criticizing what he described as irresponsible and excessive expenditure, Azim said the government has “squandered the people’s money” and spent more than MVR 110 billion in two years without delivering meaningful benefits. He accused President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu of focusing on grand events rather than improving people’s lives.
The mayor made his comments following the lavish anniversary gathering held on Friday night.
