Minister of Construction, Housing, and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muththalib has said President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is committed to delivering the "sweet taste of development" to the Maldivian people.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of Muli Airport on Tuesday, Minister Muththalib said the project had originally begun in 2014, when Muizzu served as Housing Minister. Although major portions of the work were completed before the current administration took office, he noted that progress had stalled and required renewed focus.

“Thanks to a leader who is eager to bring the sweet taste of development to the people, the airport has now been opened,” Muththalib said, highlighting President Muizzu’s active involvement in reviving the project.

The minister stated that the government has so far spent over MVR 540 million on the airport. He expressed optimism that the project would significantly boost economic activity in Mulaku Atoll, especially in tourism, due to the region's rich natural resources.

Muththalib also said the airport’s opening marks a key step in turning Muli into a regional economic hub, bringing long-awaited development and investment opportunities to the province.
