Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives, H.E. Kong Xianhua, reiterated China’s continued support for the Maldives’ development during a handover ceremony of sports equipment donated by China’s Yunnan Province.
The ceremony was held today was attended by Maldives' Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation, Abdulla Rafiu, and President of the Maldives Olympic Committee, Mohamed Abdul Sattar, among other officials.
During the ceremony, Ambassador Kong highlighted that sports serve as a universal language and are an essential part of strengthening cooperation and people-to-people ties between China and the Maldives. He stated that the donation of sports equipment is part of the broader implementation of agreements made by the leaders of both countries and contributes to building a China-Maldives community with a shared future. The donated equipment covers popular sports among the Maldivian people, aiming to encourage healthier lifestyles and promote sports engagement across the islands. He added that China remains committed to deepening sports cooperation and helping enhance the Maldives' athletic capacity.
Minister Abdulla Rafiu expressed sincere appreciation for the donation, describing China as a vital partner in the Maldives’ sports development. He noted that the donation from Yunnan Province demonstrates China’s strong support and reflects the enduring friendship between the two nations. He also expressed hope that the collaboration in the field of sports will continue and contribute to achieving the Maldives’ national sports development goals.
The donation includes a wide range of sports items such as footballs, athletics starting blocks, hurdles, table tennis tables and equipment, scoreboards, and judges’ chairs. The initiative is expected to significantly boost grassroots sports activities and infrastructure development in the Maldives.
