President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that 2026 will be declared the Year of National Productivity as part of the government’s broader efforts to boost innovation, enhance economic output, and fulfil key manifesto commitments.
The announcement was made during his visit to the national exhibition 'Maldives Expo 2025', which opened last Friday. President Muizzu said the decision followed discussions with Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed, and aims to create national momentum for increasing productivity.
The initiative is seen as a major step towards achieving the government’s goal of generating 15 percent of the country’s GDP from the creative industry. The President said that the current efforts reflect strong public interest, and that the government will take concrete steps to support this momentum.
The President also highlighted plans to implement the program in an environmentally sustainable manner, with collaboration between the government and private sector. He confirmed that allocations for the initiative will be included in the 2025 state budget.
As part of this productivity drive, President Muizzu said the Authentic Maldives platform at Velana International Airport will be expanded to provide more opportunities for local manufacturers and creatives.
The administration believes that declaring 2026 as the Year of National Productivity is a vital move to energize the economy and strengthen national output in the years ahead.
